Nigeria passed a law allowing the adoption of a new national anthem written by a British expatriate named Lillian Jean Williams. The latest version “Nigeria We Hail Thee,” was originally produced in the 1960s when the West African country gained its independence from the United Kingdom. The newly signed bill by President Bola Tinubu would replace the old anthem “Arise, O Compatriot,” introduced in 1978 by the then-military establishment led by Olusegun Obasanjo.
